Thousands of extra officers will be needed to deal with rising property crime as the recession deepens, police rank-and-file representatives have claimed.
An extra 2,000 officers will be needed over the next three years to help cope with an expected sharp surge in burglaries because of the recession, the head of a police body said on Tuesday.

Britain is justified in spending 9.3 billion pounds on the London 2012 Olympics despite the worst recession since World War Two, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Thursday.
OLYMPICS: The IOC believe London’s 2012 preparations remain unaffected by the financial crisis.
The three-day visit by the IOC co-ordination commission is the first since the UK officially went into recession, and the fourth since the capital was awarded the Games.
